Fee Increase from 1 April 2010

Under the WA HACC Fees Policy all HACC clients are income assessed for their ability to contribute to the cost of support services they receive.

As such a relevant schedule of fees has been set and People Who Care has been under this schedule for some time.

People Who Care provides services such as home maintenance, cleaning, transport, gardening, centre-based day care, home visits and social support. To be eligible for these services clients must be frail aged or have a continuing functional disability. They must also live in their own homes or live independently within alternative accommodation.

The organisation conducts brief telephone assessments of all new clients before providing a service. If the client has not been assessed by another Home and Community Care agency, PWC may need to complete a formal assessment in the client's home.

Transport

This service provides clients with transport to and from appointments, activities or community centres to allow participation in the community. Priority is given to hospital and medical appointments.

Home Maintenance

Our Home Maintenance service is provided to clients to help with minor repairs to their house, garden or yard in order to maintain their homes in a safe and habitable condition. Activities include mowing and weeding, pruning and small handyman jobs.

Social Support

This service is provided to help clients with shopping, bill paying, visiting friends or relatives, attending group outings and to access other community services.

Domestic Assistance

This service is currently only available in the metropolitan area and assists our clients with everyday household tasks such as dishwashing, house cleaning, clothes washing, shopping and bill paying.

Community Visitors Scheme

While our principal aim is to help people live independently for as long as possible, our Community Visitors Scheme provides companionship to people who live in residential care facilities, (nursing homes) who have been identified as being at risk of becoming socially isolated. PWC arranges for volunteers to visit residents at mutually convenient times. This service is available in the north and east metropolitan regions only.

Leisure Centres

People Who Care operates Leisure Centres in both Guildford and Mandurah. They provide our clients with centre-based day care and participation in structured group activities under the watchful eyes of trained carers. Staff arrange regular group excursions and visits to different community places including markets, plant nurseries, wineries, restaurants, swimming pools, shopping centres and gardens. Indoor activities include crafts, painting classes, computer lessons, movies, exercise sessions, lunches, quizzes and games.

The Mandurah centre even offers cruises with dinner, mystery bus tours and evenings at the centre with dinner and a DVD.

Transport from the client’s residence to the Leisure Centre can be arranged if required. To see the schedule of events at PWC Leisure Centres for this month and next, click here.
